What is an online countdown timer?

An online timer counts down from a time you set and lets you know when it’s finished. You can use it for cooking, workouts, exams, meetings, or pretty much any short block of time you don’t want to keep checking on your phone. If you’re timing calls across different offices, it can also help to check the world clock first.

This timer runs right in your browser. Set the hours, minutes, and seconds, then hit Start. There’s no account to create and nothing to download.

If you just want to keep the current time in view, you can use the online clock instead.

How to use this timer

  1. Enter hours, minutes, and seconds. The display updates to match.
  2. Press Start. The fields lock while the countdown runs.
  3. Press Pause to hold the remaining time, then Start to continue.
  4. When the countdown hits zero, the tab title changes and the timer beeps if audio is allowed.
  5. Press Reset to return to the values in the fields.

What’s included

  • Hours, minutes, and seconds (up to 99:59:59)
  • Start, pause, and reset
  • Beep when time is up, if the browser allows sound after Start
  • Tab title changes to Time’s up when the countdown ends
  • Correct remaining time if you switch tabs

To count up instead, use the online stopwatch. For repeating work and break blocks, use Pomotimely. For local time only, use the online clock. To compare cities before a meeting, open the world clock. For days until 25 December, open the Christmas countdown.

FAQ

Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?

Yes. It uses the real clock, so the remaining time stays correct even when the tab is in the background. Keep the tab open if you want to hear the beep.

Will I hear a sound when time is up?

A short beep sounds when the timer finishes, as long as your browser allows audio after you press Start. Keep the tab open so you don’t miss it. The tab title also changes to “Time’s up.”

What does Reset do?

Reset stops the countdown and puts the timer back to the hours, minutes, and seconds in the fields.

How long can I set?

You can set up to 99 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds. Just make sure total time is more than zero before you hit Start.

Do I need an account?

Nope. The countdown runs right in this tab. Nothing is saved to an account or synced to another device.
